National Security Education (NSE) and national education are indispensable parts of the school curriculum. Our school has adopted a "multi-pronged and coordinated" approach to promoting NSE, the Constitution, and Basic Law holistically through related Key Learning Areas/subjects, values education (including moral, civic, and national education), as well as learning activities within and beyond the classroom at different learning stages of the primary level.
1. Multiple Intelligence Learning Lessons
The students experienced traditional Chinese sports “Chui Wan”, “Archery”, “Tou Hu”, “Cuju” and “Mushe”. Through hands-on activities, they cultivated their sense of national pride and enhanced their sense of national identity.
Students celebrated the national day with a flag-raising ceremony and a speech under the flag, to learn about China's achievements in science and sports through watching "We Share the Same Wish" (MV celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China) and highlights of the Chinese team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
To develop an interest in learning the Constitution and deepen a sense of belonging towards our country and national identity, three game booths were designed. Students learned about the Constitution and the Basic Law through the games.
An Inter-class Basic Law Knowledge Competition was held in April to promote education in the Constitution and the Basic Law.
To improve and enhance students’ national security awareness and create a strong atmosphere for maintaining national security, students nurtured their national identity by playing game booths.
Ten P.5 and P.6 students participated in the Calligraphy 1000 activity to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. The work of 6A Limbu Sudin was selected as one of 75 outstanding works.
To promote Chinese culture, national security and national education, various educational visits were arranged. Through diverse and interesting activities, students learned about Chinese history and culture, the national conditions, the Constitution, the Basic Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law.
P.2, P.3 and P.4 students visited Jao Tsung-I Academy to learn about the history of Hong Kong, and the origin and evolution of Chinese characters by DIY oracle bone script seals and hand-painted oil paper umbrellas.
6C and 6D visited Tai O to learn about the history of Hong Kong and experience the life of local fishermen.
6A visited the Hong Kong Aerospace Science Education Base located at the Patriotic Education Support Centre. They had an educational talk and learned about the Aerospace achievements in modern China.
P.1 to P.6 students visited the National Security Exhibition Gallery in June to enhance students' appreciation of the significance of national security and deepen the general knowledge and understanding of national security-related concepts and issues.
Providing students with learning and training activities to enhance their understanding of the Constitution and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, thirty P.4 to P.6 joined the “Constitution and Basic Law Student Ambassadors Training Scheme” launched by the EDB.
Student Ambassadors participated in the Booth Game Design Competition on Constitution Day. They set up game booths to promote the Constitution, Basic Law, and National Security Law. They were also responsible for hosting booths and leading students to learn about national security on National Security Education Day.
Student ambassadors participated in a Wing Chun workshop to learn its skills and culture, deepening their understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
To promote the Constitution, the Basic Law and the National Security Law, student ambassadors participated in the National Security Short Speech Competition, the 17th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Contest, the Social Media Post Competition, and the Giant Panda Souvenir Design Competition etc.
The Flag Raising Team conducts flag raising every week and on special occasions. To improve their professional capabilities, the team members continue to participate in training.
To celebrate the founding of the People’s Republic of China, three members performed a flag-raising at Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
Thirteen members participated in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Flag Raising Parade in October 2024. They had exchanged activities with 1,000 students from Hong Kong and Shenzhen and experienced some military activities.
Fifteen members visited the Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Centre with their parents in April 2025. They also experienced military subjects, such as tying knots, etc. In the afternoon, they attended a talk on national security and received drill training from the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison.
To deepen the understanding and friendship between students in LCU and our sister school, Shenzhen Keyuan Primary School (Keyuan), we have carried out a series of activities this year.
In October 2024, students from the two connected classes had a Photography Competition. Twenty-nine LCU students and forty-five Keyuan students participated in the competition, showing their interest and talent in their work.
LCU teachers and students visited Keyuan on 28 and 29 November 2024. Students from the two schools had a series of exchange activities, such as a Pickleball lesson, a DIY Chinese bun lesson, a Tug-of-war competition, and performed and exchanged souvenirs. On 29 November 2024, students from both schools visited the DJI Technology Company and the Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition together.
To expand the exchange of cultural and educational resources, LCU visited the Sichuan University Affiliated Experimental Primary School and established a sister school relationship on 8 January 2025. LCU students took a visual arts lesson on making Sichuan opera masks with local students. They were amazed by the English of the local students and deepened their understanding of China’s educational development.
To widen students’ horizons and understand Chinese history and culture, our school organized a study tour in January 2025. Fifty-nine P.5 & P.6 students visited Chengdu from 7 to 10 January 2025.
Students learned about the unique ecological environment of giant pandas and the importance of protecting them by visiting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and explored dinosaurs from ancient times by visiting the Zigong Dinosaur Museum. They also created dinosaurs using Paper Clay.
They learned about the history of China’s development of the salt industry, science and the changes of Sichuan through visiting the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Zigong Salt Industry History Museum and the Chengdu Museum, Wuhou Shrine etc.
Students had a Treasure Hunt activity at Jinli Ancient Street and communicated with local people in Putonghua. They also experienced Sichuan Opera Face Changing to appreciate Chinese traditional performing arts and culture.
To promote Chinese culture and deepen parents’ understanding of the Mid-Autumn Festival, our school held a Parent-child DIY Moon Cake workshop on 9 October 2024.
To inherit traditional culture, the school conducted a DIY Dragon Boat Festival Sachet workshop for all teaching staff on 13 June 2025.
6A Khan Aleena participated in the Comic Design Competition and got 2nd runner-up., Understanding the Constitution and the Basic Law - Walking with the Rule of Law Drawing Competition.
6A Chiu Ka Kit, Ng Shing Yau and 6B Wong Yik Hin participated in the National Security Short Speech Competition. They won a prize for the Sham Shui Po District Active Participation School Award (Primary) and 6B Wong Yik Hin got Merit in the competition.
5A Ng Shing Yau got a Merit Award in the Understanding the Constitution and the Basic Law - Walking with the Rule of Law Drawing Competition.
Eighteen team members participated in the Annual Parade of the Association of Hong Kong Flag-guard and won second prize in March 2025.
Due to outstanding performance, 5B Arriesgado Tsym Holy was selected as the Outstanding Team Member of the Flag-raising Team this year.
